Ella the Wii champion

Ella_2008 05 28_0010, originally uploaded by kendyck1.

Ella popped in on half term with Granny to play my Wii for the first time.
I carefully explained how to play everything and after 1 attempt she was almost beating me already at Wii bowling! Oh no! (She's only 5 nearly 6)
Of course I'm too competitive to let her win but I fear even that won't stop her beating me soon!
Even granny was pretty good at the bowling first time- I need to practice!

Cal and Aunty C go to the park

Cal pushes Aunty C over, originally uploaded by kendyck1.

Cal came over with Granny and we played on the Wii Mario kart and wii sports then went to Reigate park to play on the pirate ship and zip line.
I love this excuse for being a big kid again.
Pizza piazza and then more fun on the swiss ball at Aunty C's!

As he left he said "I miss you", I said "I mis you too"- "No I miss you sooo much Aunty C"

Ahhh- heart breaker!

South Wales May 2008

Colourful BBQ preps, originally uploaded by kendyck1.

To finish off my week off we went camping in South Wales.
First I met Tom, Jim, Danny and Clare and we rode at Brechfa forest and rode about 28km due to a slight navigation error on account of Jim's need to relieve himsellf on the real trail. It was a good trail lots of jumps and berms but not sure it is worth the extra long tour to get there.
We camped at Glyncorrwg after raiding the local supermarket for snacks and breakfast. After pitching camp we enjoyed a beer and some home cooked nosh in the Skyline cafe while watching MTB movies- my idea of heaven.
Saturday we had a slap up breakfast of scarmbled eggs and beans on toast cooked on the camping stove, then rode Whytes level first and I got left behind while we sessioned a section so I ended up riding all the DH on my own.
Then we rode Penhydd this time I was with Tom, Jim and Danny. Clare rode with her Uni buddies. That is such a fantastic trail I love it.

After a 2nd supermarket raid we pitched camp ata smelly CwmCarn where the sewers were overflowing- nice! We had a very late BBQ of kebabs and burgers and a few beers, listening to tunes from Tom's car. Such great weather we were up til late in shorts and T's before retring tired and satiated.

I was awoken abruptly byu Kiwi banging on my tent looking for Danny! And so another brakfast cook up and then kit up in our DH gear to ride the Cwmdown shuttle all day in the blazing heat.

I rode my Cove G-spot and had a few good DH runs getting better each time but a blow out on the wooden ramp at the bottom on my 2nd run! It was very dry course and kinda dusty! Yes Wales and dusty trails!

That night we moved camp to Pen Y Fan and played frisbee late, ate curry courtesy of Danny's cooking and iced Tom's poorly ankle.

I got up at 5am, packed my tent and jumped on my bike at Cwmcarn to do the Twrch trail, my legs hurt so much on the climb but it was amazing to be out here early in the morning in shorts and T-shirt and no-one else around. I rode the 18k in about 1.5 hrs and then hit the M4 to commute back to work at home by 11am!

What a great start to the working week!
(It was ll downhill after that I'm afraid!)

Nant Yr Arian

Gorgeous day- what scenery!, originally uploaded by kendyck1.

So back in oooh about 2002, I rode this place with Julie and Martin in the pouring cold welsh rain!
I remember it well as it was the straw on the camels back that made me convert from v-brakes to disc- yes the trails had potential but it was wet, welsh wet and that meant v-brakes pretty ineffective, hands v cold and ride was ... let's say character building.

I vowed to return when it might be dry and I had brakes that worked.

Fast forward to May 2008, (yeh 6 years later!) a rare yellow globe glaring over the Welsh countryside. I camped nearby alone in a field rose early and hit the Syrffyddin trail for the 35km route.
I was pretty tired from the last 3 days covering over 100km of off road at Coed y Brenin (CYB) but when such rare conditions arise you have to hit the long one.
Wow! Was I rewarded! The scenery was so fantatsic and being a Tuesday I had the place to myself- really wild and remote, beautiful Llyns and did I mention the sun was shining and the trails were dry?!

By the time I finished I was out of water, tired legs, starving but with this huge smile on my face- the cafe was a welcome site for a big panini, cake, lucozade, ice cream and just in time to watch the red kites get fed.
I'm not kidding about 30 or so of them gradually appeared and hovered over my head!

Superb day- then a long drive home- so lucky I picked this week to take off work for a UK holiday.

Dinner for 24! May BH

Dinner for 24!, originally uploaded by kendyck1.

Is organised a weekend at CYB and 24 turned up- made for quite a dinner party each night.
Rode the Beast on Saturday 38km.
Tom and I valiantly endured Ken's snoring all night.

Took Josh and Ben with Tom and Ken to ride Llandegla on Sunday with a few mechanical challenges. We had to ride it twice to do the red and the black runa nd session the jumps so we ended up doing 34k, and sprinting back as the only downpour of the weekend completely drenched us to the bone resulting in some car park stripping and a late return for dinner.

Monday Ken Pete and I rode The Tarw trail and then added a little on to do dreamtime etc to make another 32km. The sun shonw down (most unusual for a BH in UK) and we sat by the river reluctant to leave.
Lucky for me I had the rest of the week off and more riding tomorrow!

Fishers Farm- 26 Apr

Cal's red tractor, originally uploaded by kendyck1.

Wow! What a great day.

I took Cal and Ella to Fishers farm.
We ice skated, tobogganed on big tyre tubes, played crazy golf, bounced on giant air pillows, rode tractors (just like Pappa), ate ice cream, plummted down the vertical slide in the soft play, had a picnic, and just laughed and played and had fun!

The sun shone and it was the hottest day of the year so far- we really had such a great day together.

Snow at Easter!?

Snow at Easter!?, originally uploaded by kendyck1.

Yes am playing catch-up on my blog but Easter was cold and wet and spent indoors playing Wii at Ken's until we got so fed up we went out to face the mud on our bikes on Bank holiday Monday.

But instead the ground was frozen and it snowed on us!

Just last week I was in Singapore and then California before that seems weird to be snowed on on the North Downs at Easter!
