Day 38- Peeking at Peaks on Peak 2 Peak

Today dawned very sunny again and since its been a bit cloudy recently I roused the whole house and got us up to the top of the mountain to ride on the new Peak 2 Peak cable car between the Roundhouse at the Peak of Whisler Mountain to the Rendezvous at the peak of Blackcomb.

Some Facts: -
  • Longest cable car in world 4.4km
  • Longest unsupported suspended span - 3.024km
  • Highest point above ground- 436m
  • Speed 7.5 m/s
  • Duration - 11mins
  • Capacity- 2050 people per hr each way

We didn't queue for the silver glass bottom car as the queue was too long, instead we had a car almost to ourselves. The views were amazing and you forgot that you were suspended so high above the ground with no structures to hold you up.

I wanted to hike but there was still too much snow and only a small section of hiking trail was cleared so we hiked out on the Overlord for a few kms to the Seventh Heaven lift line and then we had a picnic with great mountain views towards Black Tusk.

We decided to take the 7th heaven lift to Horstman Hut to see the glacier views and watch the ski and snowboarders - this was a true sightseeers trip! It was pretty cold on the lift back down and hoods and hats were on! Then we Peak to Peaked it back to Roundhouse and down the mountain where it was warm and sunny.

Matt and I headed into the park and whipped down 3 runs before we lit up the BBQ on the deck and sat and ate and drank and entertained JJ for a while.

Great touristy day, bit of a rest from biking which is good for the body!
